FINAL PROJECT

FINAL DEBATE:
Should space exploration be privatized?

external image 1.jpg

1. Choose your side. Are you going to be for privatized space exploration, or against it?
Be careful to think about the following when choosing your side:
  • Where does the money for space exploration come from?
  • How much does it cost us?
  • What are the benefits of space exploration?
  • What are the costs (other than money)?
  • What would happen if space exploration was privatized?
  • What has nationally funded space exploration allowed us to do, and how has it helped the country as a whole?

2. Let Mr. Valeiras know which side you want to represent, he will be placing you into teams to come up with reasons and present your argument to the rest of the class.

3. You will be working in groups of 3 or 4 (assigned by Mr. Valeiras) to demonstrate to the rest of the class why space exploration should be privatized or not. Your team will be required to give a 5 minute presentation about what you found and why you believe one way or the other.

  • The presentation should include visuals, such as posters or a PowerPoint Presentation so that you may better explain your stance to the rest of the class.
  • This will be presented to the class and given to Mr. Valeiras to be graded as part of the final project.
  • Each person in the group must talk for at least 1 minute and give some information from the presentation.
  • Each student must also submit a 1-page, typed paper explaining his or her beliefs about space exploration being privatized.
  • Make sure to include a bibliography with the paper that you hand in.

4. Presentations will take place on May 27, 2010 and May 28, 2010. Mr. Valeiras will be selecting random groups to present on the first and second day, so your presentation must be ready by May 27 to receive full credit.
